We just took a lancha (commuter boat) across the lake as usual on Wednesdays when we go in service in San Pedro, across Lake Atitlan, about a half-hour trip in normal speeds. Coming home this afternoon, it was very very rough and rocking from side to side. I truly felt afraid we'd go into the water this time. I was very afraid for my life. However, we made it, thanks to LOT of prayer.
But - is our life assured, just by prayer? Can we expect divine protection from accidents or disasters, based on our relationship with Jehovah? Or, are natural disasters a punishment from God? NO!
We heard some very sad news a few days ago. There was a bus carrying dozens of Jehovah's witnesses in Honduras to serve seldom-worked territory. Many of them were in full-time pioneer service. The bus was a typical old school-bus, driven by a non-witness driver. It took a road too fast and rolled down a mountainside. At least fourteen were killed including an 8-year-old, and fifty-six are in hospitals with serious injuries.
We aren't promised tomorrow. We just need to do all we can today to maintain a good relationship with Jehovah and our loved ones, and to live a life we can be proud of. We can't live our lives locked away out of fear of death. If we die, we know we are in the best care ever, in Jehovah's memory, with the hope of returning to life on a paradise earth. I just want to live FULLY while I have breath, not blow off or put off opportunities for some unknown (and un-sure) future.
Please pray for the injured brothers and sisters, and for the families of the ones who died. They are precious in Jehovah's memory.
