Bible studies

We have enjoyed the ministry so much here in Panajachel.  Let me tell you about our Bible students!

Bill studies with a warm, quiet man named Ismar, a Guatemalan who works for a big cellphone company here.  I posted about him last August. He has continued to study the Bible and attends almost all the meetings. His English is mediocre, but he loves English and wants to learn and improve. He's a very humble and kind and helpful man. He has been studying in the Good News brochure, and is just now starting the book What Does The Bible Really Teach. His English is getting better!

Bill also studies the Bible with a man I'll call Johnny. He is an American from East LA, married to a Guatemalan, and is self-employed here. He studies almost once a day. He is very interested in improving his family life. He goes over the same material a number of times to be sure he deeply understands and makes the necessary changes in his life and thinking. He is always always busy, but takes time to study and grow. His wife said she's seen changes!  He's delightful and sincere. He has seen hypocrisy from many of the missionaries here, and is disgusted. I don't have a picture of him, though!  He and his family were over last night for dinner and some games, but I missed my chance!

Also, out in service last Saturday, we were standing in a dirt path waiting for someone to come out of a little alleyway. Bill was talking to Jake McComas, and I was talking with Melinda Minette a few feet away. A man, Rodrigo, approached Bill and Jake. He initiated a conversation, and they talked for a half-hour or so. He wanted to know more about the Bible, so accepted a book What Does The Bible Really Teach (in both English and Spanish, so he could be confident of understanding the English), and said he would like to attend our meetings on Sunday! More later about that!

I (Nancy) have two studies. One is with an older lady, Margarita. She has some serious lung problems, but she LOVES her studies. She lived in Los Angeles for many years, so speaks English pretty well, but we study mostly in Spanish. She is precious.

Finally, there is Nayeli. Her mom runs the 'plastic store' here, kind of like a Dollar Store back in the US. Nayeli is a very busy student. But she does well with her studies - both Bible and school - and is as sweet as can be. She is 12, and turns 13 in June.

Would you like to have studies like these precious ones?  C'mon down!  It's a joy and a privilege.  You can touch hearts, lives.
