Scotland, Day 4 - Falkirk Wheel, Stirling Castle, dinner at Cooks

Day Four, we were on an outing with Mark and Alison Cooney, and then dinner with the Cooks!

First, we went to the Falkirk Wheel. It is a spectacular engineering feat! The east and west coasts of Scotland are connected by a series of shallow canals that bring people and goods across the land. Because of elevation changes, there are locks from time to time to raise/lower the boats to the next level. However, a significant elevation change occurs where they now have the Falkirk Wheel. It is like a giant ferris wheel, with two 'buckets' to carry boats up and down the 115'. Amazing!

Next we drove to "the Kelpies" sculptures: 

Fantastic! 

Then we went to Stirling Castle, a very historic place in Scotland. My photos can't possibly do it justice, so click that link to see more. It's an amazing place. One interesting note, the building that housed the original church was made to the dimensions of Solomon's temple! 

Then we drove back to Glasgow ... 

... to have dinner with Robin and Celia Cook. We had a very yummy meal with them and with Fiona, my new buddy! 

A fabulous day, ending with a sunset about 10PM!
