We arrived and got on the boat for a relaxing two+ hour ride up Loch Lomond. The lake/loch seems huge, since it's long and mostly narrow (24 miles long, 27 square miles, making it surprisingly just a tad more than half the size of Lake Atitlan where we live, though it seems much larger because of its length). It is beautiful, set among hills and with islands (inch- is the prefix, meaning innis, or island, in Gaelic).
An interesting fact is that the Vikings explored (and plundered and pillaged) here many centuries ago, by bringing their ships overland into the loch (rolling them on logs). This is a very historic area.
My photos don't do it justice. I took dozens of photos, but none really can capture the peace, the grandeur. Please google it and see the beauties of this lake! It is such a jewel. And the cruise experience was such a great way to see it - it goes slowly up to Luss (where June's mother grew up) and then turns around back down.
Next we went shopping at Antartex near Loch Lomond. Nice prices and good products!
Then we drove up the west side of the loch/lake to Luss, a beautiful and quaint village. June, one of our hosts for the day, said that her mother grew up on the edge of Luss and she visited often, so it had a personal connection for her. There is a church graveyard that has a Viking gravestone dating to the thirteenth century!

Then we drove into Glasgow, had a nice dinner and were returned to our flat after a delightful day with Jim and June Maitland!
